Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, has stated that the company is targeting an annual production of 200,000 units of its highly anticipated electric pickup truck, the Cybertruck. This announcement comes as Tesla prepares to begin deliveries of the long-awaited vehicle at the end of this month.
Scaling Up Production
Previously, Tesla had indicated that it had the capacity to manufacture over 125,000 Cybertrucks annually. Musk also mentioned the potential to increase production to 250,000 units by the year 2025.
Long-Awaited Debut
The Cybertruck was unveiled by Elon Musk almost four years ago at an event in Los Angeles. During the launch, the head of design famously demonstrated the vehicle’s “armor glass” window by cracking it with a metal ball, showcasing various tests to the audience.
Challenges in Production
During an episode of the “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast, Elon Musk highlighted the challenges of producing the Cybertruck. He emphasized that manufacturing is significantly more complex than the initial design phase.
In an earnings call earlier in the month, Musk candidly mentioned that the company had encountered difficulties with the Cybertruck and could potentially face substantial challenges in scaling up production and achieving positive cash flow.
