In a bid to further strengthen its commitment to its long-term carbon neutrality vision – Beyond Zero –Toyota has announced a fresh investment of nearly $8 billion into Toyota Battery Manufacturing North Carolina (TBMNC) which will create approximately 3,000 more jobs. This brings the total investment in the Liberty, North Carolina facility to approximately $13.9 billion and job creation to more than 5,000. In North America alone, Toyota employs more than 49,000 people who have helped in the production of more than 33 million cars and trucks across the automaker’s nine manufacturing plants on the continent. TBMNC is set to be the automaker’s 10th facility in the region.
For the unaware, TBMNC is the brand’s all-new and first-ever Lithium-ion battery manufacturing plant in North America that is set to go live in 2025 (it is still under construction). It was announced in 2021 by Toyota Motor Corporation, in partnership with Toyota Tsusho (the trading arm of the Toyota Group), with an initial investment of $1.29 billion for battery production and the creation of 1,750 new jobs. The plant will supply batteries to Toyota’s Kentucky facility, which will build Toyota’s first U.S.-made electric vehicle, a new three-row SUV.
