Volvo Car India has achieved a historic milestone by delivering over 1,000 electric vehicles (EVs) in the country. The company’s EV journey commenced in November 2022 with the delivery of its first XC40 Recharge, which was also the first locally assembled luxury electric SUV in India.
Volvo Car India currently offers three EV models in the Indian market: the XC40 Recharge, the born electric C40 Recharge, and the single-motor XC40 Recharge. All these models are delivered through the company’s ambitious Online Direct Sales model via the Volvo Car India website. Additionally, all Volvo EV customers receive an exclusive membership to the company’s ultimate luxury program called ‘Tre Kronor Experience’.
On the occasion of World Environment Day, Mr. Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director of Volvo Car India, expressed, “We are happy to announce that Volvo Car India has delivered over 1,000 EV cars. This achievement is another milestone on our journey towards becoming an all-electric company by 2030.”
He added, “Our robust progress is a reflection of strong customer confidence in our cars as well as our commitment to growing the luxury EV market in India.”
Volvo Car India recorded strong growth in 2023, with an impressive 31 per cent increase in overall sales compared to 2022. The pure electric models, XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge, together accounted for 28 per cent of the total sales.
Volvo Car India is committed to launching one electric vehicle every year, with the aim of transitioning its entire portfolio to electric vehicles ahead of 2030.

While the European Union will mandate battery passports for all electric vehicles sold within its borders starting from February 2027, requiring automakers to disclose the composition of batteries, the origin of key materials, their carbon footprint, and recycled content, Volvo has taken a proactive approach by introducing this innovative solution nearly three years ahead of the regulations. This move underscores the company’s commitment to its goal of transitioning to an all-electric vehicle lineup by 2030.
