After a delay in production and delivery caused by the shortage of semiconductors and production issues, the Luxeed S7 electric sedan developed by Chinese tech giant Huawei and Chery Auto has started mass delivery.
According to a post on the Weibo social media platform by the managing director and chairman of Huawei’s smart car solutions, Richard Yu, a significant number of Luxeed S7 vehicles have already rolled off the production line and are currently being transported for delivery to customers.
The first model for Chery’s Luxeed EV brand, the S7 sedan, priced at 249,800 yuan (USD 34,600) had 20,000 orders as of November 28, 2024.
Local media reports highlighted that Huawei had assured the delivery-related problems of the premium brand electric vehicle would be actively resolved from April onwards.
Upon facing production issues with a computing unit made by the Chinese tech giant Huawei that ultimately caused delays in the Luxeed S7 electric sedan deliveries, Chery lodged complaints with Huawei earlier this year.
With a rebound in its consumer base and new income streams from businesses like smart car components accelerating its recovery from US sanctions, Huawei’s revenues saw the fastest growth in the last four years in 2023.
The previous year, Huawei had announced that it would turn the smart car unit into a new company. According to media reports, after losing billions in yuan last year, Yu said that the unit would most probably become profitable from April this year.
