In a stride towards a sustainable future, Formula E has secured the Net-Zero Award, reinforcing its status as the world’s most environmentally friendly sport. The championship’s net zero carbon strategy, recognised at the awards ceremony, aims to reduce overall emissions in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship by 45% before 2030.
Formula E holds the distinction of being the only sport globally to achieve net zero carbon status since its inception in 2014. The net zero carbon commitment, initiated in 2020, marked a pivotal moment when Formula E became the first sport to have its emissions reduction targets validated by the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi). The championship has made remarkable progress, surpassing the halfway mark towards its 2030 goal by reducing championship emissions by 28% in just three years.
Edie’s Net-Zero Awards, established to acknowledge organisations leading the charge towards a net-zero carbon economy, celebrated Formula E’s groundbreaking efforts. These awards operate alongside the esteemed edie Awards, which spotlight the most sustainable businesses globally.
Season 10 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship kicks off on January 13, 2024, in Mexico City. This milestone race marks a decade of Formula E’s pioneering sustainability initiatives, solidifying its commitment to fostering a more sustainable future.
