Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) continues its swift progress in the electric vehicle sector while establishing essential infrastructure. The company recently inaugurated an EV battery testing facility and commenced the construction of a crash test facility. The virtual inauguration ceremony was attended by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, Minister of Industries Dr. TRB Rajaa, and M&M’s top executives.
The EV Battery Test Lab, located in Mahindra Research Valley, Chengalpattu, was established with a substantial investment of Rs 210 crore and is set to provide employment opportunities for over 1,000 individuals. Concurrently, the EV Crash Test laboratory and Battery Prototyping Centre, funded with Rs 290 crore, are under development at the Mahindra SUV Proving Track within the SIPCOT Cheyyar Industrial Park.
Mahindra Research Valley (MRV), founded in 2012 across 125 acres in Mahindra World City, Chengalpattu, is a pioneering R&D facility. It is the only centre globally to undertake both automobile and tractor product development under a single roof. Additionally, the expansive 454-acre test track at SIPCOT Cheyyar specializes in vehicle testing, validation, ride handling, and other critical capabilities.
In a significant move on July 4, 2022, M&M and the Tamil Nadu government inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU). The automaker pledged an additional investment of Rs 500 crore within four years from April 2022, with a commitment to generating a minimum of 850 job opportunities.
The inauguration of the EV battery testing facility and the groundbreaking for the crash test facility underscore Mahindra’s dedication to advancing electric mobility and enhancing safety measures for its vehicles. These strategic investments align with the company’s vision to drive innovation and growth in the electric vehicle ecosystem.
