BMW India has announced that the launch of the BMW 220i M Performance Edition is scheduled for September 7, 2023. Enthusiasts can currently reserve their units, but this exclusive variant is offered solely in a striking Black Sapphire metallic paint finish. With a limited number available, the BMW 220i M Performance Edition can be secured through the BMW Online Shop by paying a token amount of Rs 1.50 lakh. The deliveries will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis, adding a sense of exclusivity to the experience.
Distinguishing Features
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé has already proven its mettle in the market, thanks to its impressive performance and captivating design. The M Performance Edition of the BMW 220i model is enhanced with several features from BMW’s M Performance parts inventory. Notable enhancements include a unique front grille design, an Alcantara-covered gear lever, and other distinguishing elements that set it apart from the standard 2 Series.
Interior and Advanced Features
Inside, the 220i M Performance variant offers a dual-tone black and beige interior. Although the precise features of the M Performance edition are yet to be unveiled, experts anticipate them to align closely with those of the base 2 Series Gran Coupe. This includes dual 10.25-inch touchscreens, one for the infotainment system and the other for the digital instrument cluster. Passengers can control various aspects of the vehicle through the BMW Virtual Assistant, and smartphone integration features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto enhance connectivity.

In terms of safety, the BMW 220i M Performance Edition is equipped with advanced features, including six airbags, Attentiveness Assistance, Electronic Differential Lock Control (EDLC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Electric Parking Brake with Auto Hold, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Brake Assist, and ARB technology for enhanced wheel slip control.
Powertrain and Styling
Powering the BMW 220i M Performance Edition is a two-litre, four-cylinder BMW TwinPower Turbo engine renowned for its impressive performance. The car accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in just 7.1 seconds and generates 173.5bhp of maximum power and 280Nm of peak torque between 1350-4600rpm. Distinctive ‘M’ Performance additions, such as the M Performance Front Grill and M Performance Alcantara Gear Selector Lever, contribute to the vehicle’s overall style and flair.
Expected Price and Competition
BMW will officially announce the price of the M Performance edition on September 7. While the exact price is yet to be disclosed, industry observers anticipate a slightly higher price point compared to the M Sport Pro trim. Currently, the 220i M Sport and 220i M Sport Pro are priced at Rs 43.50 lakh and Rs. 45.50 lakh respectively (ex-showroom, India). In terms of competition, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class limousine stands as the chief rival to the 2 Series Gran Coupe, priced at Rs 45.80 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
